With big backpacks we set off from Abisko through some grey drizzling weather into the most beautiful autumn weather possible: clear skies, warm and all birches are golden.
We have some nice meetings this week. After a Very busy area there are not many people here, but for a few days we keep meeting each other. We run into 4 reindeer at a hut, no not the usual reindeer-these have big bags on their backs and are led by 3 women: a guided hiking trip without having to carry anything!
That evening we think we have the hut for ourselves-dead tired after not sleeping much in Abisko thanks to a snoring roommate we are about to go to bed at 9 when someone walks in: a guy also on his way to nordkapp. His name is Steinar and he comes from Oslo (his website msnorge.no). Before we know it it is midnight.
The next day we walk most of the day together, learning many interesting things about Norwegian history and 100 other things. Everyone we meet seems drunk on the beauty of autumn, and also next day when having a lazy long lunch break trying to get out thermos full of blueberries we meet Steinar again.
We walk good this week, and Nordkapp starts to call us more and more. In Kilpisjärvi (Finland) we receive a big package from Germany full of good food and nice postcards, that made us very happy. Thank you!
From there we have to hitchhike to Skibotn, where a replacement jacket waits for Melissa, because the old jacket was no longer water proof. We get a ride from a German truckdriver that brings us most of the way, and after a night on the camping we go back tomorrow to do our biggest shopping so far, and hopefully we are in Alta in 11 days.
